Sustainable cosmetics: for care and beauty that also makes the planet happy

Natural products and sustainability are in vogue. Of course, this has not escaped the attention of the large cosmetics companies. Almost every beauty brand, almost every care label now offers supposedly natural cosmetics or supposedly organic products. Greenwashing has become an integral part of marketing.

Many of these supposedly natural care products often have nothing to do with sustainable cosmetics. But when are cosmetics really sustainable? What criteria must responsible natural cosmetics meet? And why are organic products not only good for the planet, but also for skin and hair? You can find answers to these most important questions here.

What exactly is sustainable cosmetics?

To put it simply, sustainability stands for a resource-saving and careful handling of the treasures of nature and of our planet as a whole. Only as many raw materials may be removed as can be regrown. This is the only way to keep the sensitive equilibrium in balance. Sustainable cosmetics are therefore always natural cosmetics, because any synthetic production interferes with the natural regeneration cycle and damages it.

Cosmetics that claim to be sustainable use organic ingredients and sustainable, i.e. recyclable, packaging. They are free of microplastics and do not require animal testing.

The ingredients of organic origin are fairly sourced and traded. However, natural cosmetics are not necessarily vegan. In addition to the renewable, plant-based raw materials, animal products such as milk or honey, mink oils and other animal fats can also legitimately be included.

However, many companies that are committed to sustainable care and beauty with their brands do not use any animal ingredients at all and only produce natural, vegan cosmetic products. Here in our ENVI Naturals Shops we offer you a large selection of these vegan natural cosmetics.

How are sustainable cosmetics made?

In principle, the production of sustainable products takes place without the addition of chemicals and under fair trade conditions. For natural cosmetics, only raw materials are used that are of natural origin or come from controlled organic cultivation.

The actual production process is short and includes only a few stations - so the natural effectiveness of the ingredients remains unadulterated.

In addition to the unmodified natural substances, cosmetics that are sustainable usually also contain a proportion of natural ingredients that are obtained for further processing through physical processes such as fermentation. So-called nature-identical substances, such as minerals or pigments, may also be used under certain conditions.

Although they also occur in nature, they are "recreated" in the laboratory if they are indispensable for the texture, for example, to maintain the purity and effectiveness of the other raw materials.

Almost without exception, recycled and/or recyclable materials are used for the packaging of sustainable products. Some companies consistently rely on corn starch or natural starch, so that no waste products are produced during production - and the packaging can later be disposed of in organic waste or in the compost.

Why should you use sustainable cosmetics?

The use of sustainable cosmetics, especially if they come along as vegan natural cosmetics, is also a small contribution to making life on our planet responsible and protecting the environment and climate. First and foremost, however, organic products are simply better and more effective for skin and hair than conventional products.

The entire range that you can find here in our ENVI Naturals Shop do not contain any synthetic or petroleum-based additives that can be responsible for various irritations and allergies. Natural and nature-based raw materials are also much more easily recognized by the skin as their own structural building blocks. Which in principle is logical.

As a result, the skin absorbs the active plant ingredients from the cream, serum or tincture quickly and effectively into its cell balance - where they enrich the nutrient supply. The Amala Beauty brand from our ENVI Naturals Shop, for example, has convinced even the international guard of the best spas with this consistent concept of certified natural cosmetics that are vegan: They use Amala Beauty for their treatments. Sustainable cosmetics also impress with their broad spectrum of effects.

That means: The targeted combination of vegan organic ingredients results in care products that are small all-round talents for skin and hair.

Amala Beauty's Advanced Firming Complex is a wonderful example of sustainability and benefits: The team play of acai stem cells with ferulic acid, sea buckthorn oil and cacay seed oil, cocoa butter and maca root peptides creates a lavish vitality treatment for the skin. The complex regenerates, soothes, rebuilds, smooths and increases elasticity - for a phenomenal radiance.

How do you recognize sustainable cosmetics?

You can easily recognize sustainable natural cosmetics by certain seals and certifications that the respective brands bear. The BDIH seal is a trustworthy test mark for controlled natural cosmetics that is awarded on the basis of ecological, health and social aspects.

Manufacturers who produce certified natural cosmetics in this way rely on ingredients from organic farming and completely do without preservatives, colorants, fragrance additives and petroleum.

In Germany, only products that are made from at least 95 percent plant-based and natural ingredients can be certified with this label. The certifications from the organizations NaTrue, Ecocert and USDA-Organic are also internationally recognized and valued.

Where can you buy sustainable cosmetics?
